Tomorrow I'm going to try and (re)author my first disc ever. I am wondering though, if its easy to delete the standard blue index screen a show without menu's has?
And if TMPGEnc DVD Author has an option of adding background music to a menu..

Thanks

I belive TMPGEnc does have that option. I know for sure it has the option to make the menu's pictures in motion.

This is more of a question for Leglessmoof <_<

Personally, I'd skip using TMPGEnc altogether and start authoring DVDs with DVD-Lab Pro. It looks complicated but if you do the small tutorial in the online manual you'll learn all you really need to know within less than a half hour. <_< It's actually easy to use and I can help you out a little bit, as I've been working with it for a few weeks and leglessmoof has been kind enough to help me figure some things out as well.

When re-authoring a DVD, there is no way to import the existing menu (unless you created it originally). So you couldn't even keep the "blue index screen" menu if you wanted to. :)

And if TMPGEnc DVD Author has an option of adding background music to a menu..

TMPGEnc doesn't have a direct option for menu background music. However, if your menu background is an MPG file, you can have the audio from the MPG file as your background music.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that recommendation. If it's a person like Spawn or myself (who can learn new software packages very easily) then it's probably safe to start with DVD-lab. But if you don't have a clue what you're doing, start with TMPGEnc unless you need the advanced features of DVD-lab.

I still use TMPGEnc for a lot of my authoring. Even though it's not very advanced, it gets the job done most of the time. And TMPGEnc takes a lot less time than DVD-lab (in terms of the time it takes to create a good menu). For example, here's a screenshot of a menu I just made in TMPGEnc.

Simple, but effective. And it took me about 5 minutes to make. (Of course, I had to create that background in Photoshop first before I could load it into TMPGEnc. But I would have had to do the same for DVD-lab.)

Awesome. I did it!

Just one question remaining though, how do I make a button that takes you from the title screen to the root menu, where all the chapters are, I checked out videohelp a few times, but remain non the wiser

I assume you're using TMPGEnc?

In TMPGEnc, it's impossible to add buttons. You basically have to choose one of their DVD layouts and stick to it. So if one particular layout isn't working the way you want it to, try a different layout.
