Color Theory Basics ~~ The Color Wheel ~~

Color Theory is vial to any designer whether using pixels or paint. The Tutorials in this thread address color theory, color schemes and manipulation color in your work. If you've never studied color theory take a moment to read through and understand the basics, your designs will take on an eye catching, professional quality as a result.

Color Theory Basics is based on the color wheel and the three sub groups of color within the color wheel. The color wheel is created by 12 colors arranged within their sub groups: primary colors, secondary colors (created by mixing primary colors together) and tertiary colors (created by mixing one primary color with one secondary color). The relationship between the colors in these groups which create the remaining colors.

Color Theory ~~ Color Schemes ~~

Color Schemes put simply are what colors look good together and what dont. The Deviant Art Tutorial above breaks color schemes down to four basic schemes: Complimentary, Mononchromnatic, Analogous and Triadic. This tutorial explains these basic schems in detail and how they relate to compter graphic design using Photoshop: Creating Color Schemes (chainstyle.com)
